Preasráiteas
Is cúis bhróid d’Aerfort Dhún na nGall a fhógairt gur sinne an chéad aerfort in Éirinn a bhain “Claochlú” Leibhéal 4 amach i gCreidiúnú Carbóin Aerfoirt (ACA). Is cloch mhíle an-suntasach é an éacht seo inár dturas inbhuanaitheachta, agus bronnadh é mar aitheantas ar thiomantas leanúnach an aerfoirt a lorg carbóin a laghdú agus a chuid oibríochtaí a ailíniú le spriocanna aeráide domhanda.
Is é Creidiúnú Carbóin Aerfoirt an t-aon chlár deimhniúcháin bainistíochta domhanda atá formhuinithe ag institiúidí d’aerfoirt. Déanann sé measúnú neamhspleách agus aithníonn sé iarrachtaí an aerfoirt a n-astaíochtaí carbóin a bhainistiú agus a laghdú trí 7 leibhéal deimhniúcháin: ‘Léirscáilíú’, ‘Laghdú’, ‘Barrfheabhsú’, ‘Neodracht’, ‘Aistriú’ agus ‘Leibhéal 5’.
Agus í ag trácht ar an fhógra a rinne ACA, dúirt Eilís Docherty, Stiúrthóir Bainistíochta Aerfort Dhún na nGall: Tá bród ar leith ar an Chathaoirleach, ar an Bhord Stiúrthóirí agus ar Bhainistíocht Aerfort Dhún na nGall as a bheith ar an chéad aerfort in Éirinn le Leibhéal 4 ACA a bhaint amach. Tá an deimhniú seo tuillte ag tiomantas fhoireann an aerfoirt agus páirtithe leasmhara níos leithne an aerfoirt dár n-uaillmhianta Glan-nialasacha foilsithe agus leanfaimid orainn ag obair i dtreo ár sprice eatramhaí de laghdú 70% ar astaíochtaí Scóip 1 agus 2 faoi 2030 agus sprioc fhadtéarmach de Ghlan-astaíochtaí Nialasacha thar gach scóip tráth nach déanaí ná 2050”.
Press Release
Donegal Airport are proud to announce that we are the first Irish airport to achieve Level 4 “Transformation” in Airport Carbon Accreditation. This achievement marks a very significant milestone in our sustainability journey, and has been awarded in recognition of the airport’s continuing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and aligning its operations with global climate goals.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is the only institutionally-endorsed, global management certification programme for airports. It independently assesses and recognises the efforts of airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions through 7 levels of certification: ‘Mapping’, ‘Reduction’, ‘Optimisation’, ‘Neutrality’, ‘Transition’ and ‘Level 5’.
Commenting on the announcement by ACA, Eilís Docherty, Managing Director Donegal Airport said: “The Chairperson, Board of Directors and Management of Donegal Airport are particularly proud at being the first Irish airport to achieve Level 4 ACA. This certification has been earned by the commitment of the airport staff and wider airport stakeholders to our published Net Zero ambitions and we will continue to work towards our interim goal of a 70% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and a long term target of Net Zero emissions across all scopes no later than 2050”.
Loganair’s summer schedule between Glasgow and Donegal has commenced as part of a flying programme that will now deliver vital year-round connectivity between the two destinations.
The UK’s largest regional airline is the only carrier offering a direct air link between the Northwest of Ireland and the UK.
Loganair’s summer schedule returned yesterday [Sunday 19 May] offering up to three flights weekly for the majority of the season. The route will continue through the winter, with flights taking place Fridays and Sundays, enabling weekend visits and providing sought-after year-round connectivity.
Luke Lovegrove, Chief Commercial Officer, Loganair, said: ” With up to three flights a week, we are enabling greater travel opportunities between Glasgow and Donegal, and we expect to carry more customers this summer on the Donegal to Glasgow than ever before.
“We’re really happy to be maintaining service to Donegal throughout the winter, ensuring year-round connectivity between the UK and Northwest Ireland and would encourage customers to book as early as possible to secure the best fares.”
Donegal Airport, at Carrickfinn, is renowned for its spectacular views on approach, and regularly appears at the top of lists for the world’s most scenic landing. Loganair has flown to Donegal Airport since the early 1990s and the relaunch of its Glasgow route in 2023 was warmly welcomed by a variety of travellers.
Eilís Docherty, Managing Director, Donegal Airport, said: “Donegal Airport are delighted to welcome Loganair back for Summer 2024 and are looking forward to welcoming both new and existing customers to this route. We are expecting a busy summer season and the agreement to operate flights year-round will meet the demand for a direct air link between two closely connected regions”.
Throughout the summer the service will operate up to three times per week and twice weekly from 28th October when the winter schedule begins.
