Loganair’s summer schedule between Glasgow and Donegal has commenced as part of a flying programme that will now deliver vital year-round connectivity between the two destinations.
The UK’s largest regional airline is the only carrier offering a direct air link between the Northwest of Ireland and the UK.
Loganair’s summer schedule returned yesterday [Sunday 19 May] offering up to three flights weekly for the majority of the season. The route will continue through the winter, with flights taking place Fridays and Sundays, enabling weekend visits and providing sought-after year-round connectivity.
Luke Lovegrove, Chief Commercial Officer, Loganair, said: ” With up to three flights a week, we are enabling greater travel opportunities between Glasgow and Donegal, and we expect to carry more customers this summer on the Donegal to Glasgow than ever before.
“We’re really happy to be maintaining service to Donegal throughout the winter, ensuring year-round connectivity between the UK and Northwest Ireland and would encourage customers to book as early as possible to secure the best fares.”
Donegal Airport, at Carrickfinn, is renowned for its spectacular views on approach, and regularly appears at the top of lists for the world’s most scenic landing. Loganair has flown to Donegal Airport since the early 1990s and the relaunch of its Glasgow route in 2023 was warmly welcomed by a variety of travellers.
Eilís Docherty, Managing Director, Donegal Airport, said: “Donegal Airport are delighted to welcome Loganair back for Summer 2024 and are looking forward to welcoming both new and existing customers to this route.  We are expecting a busy summer season and the agreement to operate flights year-round will meet the demand for a direct air link between two closely connected regions”.
Throughout the summer the service will operate up to three times per week and twice weekly from 28th October when the winter schedule begins.
Reservations for flights between Glasgow and Donegal can be made at loganair.co.uk, where full scheduling information can be found, or via travel agents.
All fares include a 21kg luggage allowance, inflight refreshments, discounts for children aged 11 and under, and a mandatory carbon offset charge as part of the airline’s innovative GreenSkies sustainability programme.
Official Donegal Airport Emerald Airline's press release

The Board of Directors and Management of Donegal Airport welcome the announcement by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Eamon Ryan T.D. that Emerald Airlines are to be awarded the contract to operate the PSO route between Dublin and Donegal from 26th February 2022.  This PSO contract provides an essential air link between the North West and Dublin in the absence of a motorway or rail network in the region.

The award of the contract to Emerald Airlines will see a continuation of the twice daily flights currently being operated by Amapola Flyg AB, who have provided a very reliable service under an interim contract since July 2021.

The ATR72-600 series aircraft, operated by Emerald Airlines, will also provide additional seat capacity on the route which will help the Airport regain passenger numbers post Covid-19 and contribute to our working closely with business and tourism development agencies to further promote the region as an attractive destination.

We sincerely thank Amapola Flyg AB for their service under the interim contract and look forward to working with Ireland’s newest regional airline over the coming weeks to prepare for the start of operations on 26th February 2022.

Ba mhaith le Bord agus Bainistíocht Aerfort Dhún na nGall fáilte a chur roimh fhógra an Aire Iompair, Eamon Ryan Uas. T.D. go bhfuil an conradh nua PSO á bhronnadh ar chomhlacht Emerald Airlines le tosú 26ú Feabhra, 2022 le leanúint ar feadh tréimhse ceithre bliana.

Tá an ceangal aeir idir Baile Átha Cliath agus réigiún an Iarthuaiscirt fíor thábhachtach d’fhorbairt eacnamaíochta agus turasóireachta an réigiúin
go háirithe i bhfianaise go bhfuil an t-infreastruchtúr bóthair agus iarnróid easnamhach i gcomparáid le ceantair eile ar fud na tíre.

Leanfar leis an tseirbhís dhá uair sa lá faoin chonradh úr seo le Emerald Airlines atá a chur ar fáil faoi láthair ag Amapola Flyg AB a chuir seirbhís mhaith eatramhach ar fáil dúinn ó mhí Iúil seo caite agus a bheas linn go dtí Feabhra na bliana seo chugainn

Beidh eitleáin nua-aimseartha den dearadh ATR 72 – 600 in úsáid ag Emerald agus tabharfaidh seo deis don Aerfort ár líon paisinéirí a mhéadú go dtí an leibhéal a bhíodh againn roimh ráig Covid agus cur leis go bliantúil de réir a chéile. Beidh muid ag comhoibriú le lucht gnó, áisíneachtaí forbartha gnó agus turasóireachta chun na spriocanna uaillmhianacha seo a bhaint amach.

Tá muid fíorbhuíoch do Amapola Flyg AB as ucht a chuid seirbhíse faoin chonradh eatramhach agus ag tnúth go mór le comhoibriú leis an aerlíne nua chun dlús a chur le forbairt gnó agus turasóireachta an réigiúin agus seirbhís fíor riachtanach a sholáthar do phobal Dhún na nGall agus an réigiúin máguaird.
